Chapter Summaries: The book starts out with Mr Jones, being rather drunk, locking up the barns and getting ready for bed. Earlier that day, Old Major told all the animals on the farm that he had something to tell them. All the animals knew that whatever Old Major had to say was important. When Mr. Jones went to bed, all the animals met in the barn to listen to him. Old Major told them that he is going to die soon so he wanted to share with the other animals what he had learned by living in the farm. He taught the animals that mankind was evil and how he had a dream that there was a rebellion that led to the animals freedom.
4 Quotes: "Let us face it: our lives are miserable, laborious, and short. We are born, we are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies, and those of us who are capable of it are forced to work to the last atom of our strength." This quote relates to real life history because the people of Russia were very poor and were treated horribly. Czar Nicholas ll was the king and he did nothing for his people or even the guards that worked for him.
"Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished for ever. Man is the only creature that consumes without producing." This quote relates to real life history because the people of Russia plan to overthrow the king. They were getting sick of being treated poorly, so they came to the conlusion that getting rid of the king would solve all their problems.
"Mr Jones, of the Manor Farm, had locked the henhouses for the night, but was too drunk to remember to shut the popholes." This quote relates to real life history because Mr Jones represents the king of Russia and it shows how careless of a man he is.
"And you hens, how many eggs have you laid in this last year, and how many of those eggs ever hatched into chickens? The rest have all gone to market to bring in money for Jones and his men." This quote relates to real life history because it shows that the chickens sacrafice so much and dont get anything in return, even though their working for Mr. Jones. The chickens represent the men that work for the king of Russia and how even they get treated poorly by recieving hardly any money for their work.
The hammer and sickle itself, originate from the unique Russian unity of the peasants (the sickle) with the workers (the hammer) who together formed the Soviet Russian state. The Red field is symbolism of the blood that has been spilt by workers the world over in the fight for their emancipation, and was directly inherited from the red banner flown at the Paris Commune; the original and hitherto “base” symbol of a worker’s government flag. The single yellow star is both the representation of the life and immense energy of the sun, empty because within is the blood or production of workers struggle; and also the five points of the star symbolize the single unity and international representation of the government — each of the five points is representative of the five (up to then known/recognized) continents.Brian Basgen (Marxists Internet Archive Director), 07 Jul 2000
Soviet flag with hammer, sickle and star was not created in 1918! It was adopted in 1923. The star on the flag was red with yellow border (not plain red). Only the coat of arms and some military colours were with hammer and sickle in 1918. Hammer and sickle existed in soviet symbolism since 1917.Victor Lomantsov, 08 Jul 2000 and 09 Jul 2000\
This is old major saying his last words to the farm, Preaching his final words of wisdom of how he wants animals to be free. It is like him passing down the communist manifestio to the younger genration so that one day they can make a 'perfect' world for animals. This is was also karl marx's dream for the world. That one day somebody will use his ideas to make the prefect socitey were everybody is equal. The one man that really took it into action was 3 russians. In Animal Farm it is the 3 Pigs that heard old majors words.
The Horse name is Boxer- He Is a strong horse that can do alot of work Boxer is like the Devoted russian worker of the middle class Always trying to do more the country, the patriot of anmial farm
